The garden, for a bus

What we plan around

The New York Botanical Garden runs school trips Tuesday through Friday, and its bus rules are exact: one gate for school buses, set hours, and no bus parking inside the garden.

01

The Everett Garden Gate

All school buses stop at the garden’s school group entrance, the Everett Garden Gate on Southern Boulevard across from Fordham University. The gate is for school-bus drop-off and pick-up only, Tuesday to Friday, 9:45 to 2.

02

No bus parking inside

Bus parking is not available within the garden. The garden points buses to street parking along Southern Boulevard, so the bus waits there and comes back to the gate at your pickup time.

03

On time, or cancelled

The garden cancels groups that arrive more than 30 minutes late, so the departure carries real padding for the morning traffic.

04

Not the parkways

Car GPS ends on the Henry Hudson and Mosholu Parkways, which are closed to buses. The bus takes the George Washington Bridge, the Cross Bronx and Fordham Road, which runs longer than the GPS says.

How a garden day runs

School to school
DepartureMorning

The bus is at the school before the bell

Spot time is set ahead of departure, and the teacher and the driver have each other’s cell the night before. The gate opens at 9:45, and a group more than 30 minutes late loses its slot, so the departure is set early.

Roads a bus can use

On a route a bus can legally drive, about an hour from Midtown or Bergen County on a weekday morning, and longer from Newark or Staten Island. Tolls are itemized at cost.

At the gardenThe wait

The bus waits on Southern Boulevard

Round trips are quoted with the wait built in. The bus waits on Southern Boulevard and is back at the Everett Garden Gate at your pickup time, before the gate closes at 2.

ReturnBefore dismissal

Back at school on time

The return is timed to the bell, and the teacher gets a heads-up when the bus is ten minutes out.

Whole-grade trips run as one plan: several buses arrive at the gate together, and the teacher in charge has one contact for all of them.

Three steps to a confirmed schedule

How it works
01

Send the date and the headcount

The trip date, students and chaperones, the school address, and the time on your confirmation if you have it.

02

One all-in number the same day

Gratuity and fuel are in the number and tolls are itemized at cost: one price a business office or PTA can approve.

03

Booked and run

Driver info the day before, one contact the morning of, and the bus at the school before the bell.

Sized for the class

13 to 55-plus

A class of 25 with its chaperones rides a mini coach. Two classes with chaperones, up to 55, fill a full coach.

Questions, answered

Botanical Garden field trip FAQ

At the Everett Garden Gate, the garden’s school group entrance on Southern Boulevard across from Fordham University. It is for school-bus drop-off and pick-up only, Tuesday to Friday, 9:45 to 2.
Where does the bus park?
Not inside the garden, which has no bus parking. The garden points buses to street parking along Southern Boulevard, and the bus comes back to the gate at your pickup time.
What happens if we are late?
The garden cancels groups that arrive more than 30 minutes late, so we build real padding into the morning departure.
How long is the drive?
On roads a bus can use, about an hour from Midtown or Bergen County on a weekday morning, and longer from Newark or Staten Island.
Does the bus wait during the visit?
Yes. Round trips are quoted with the wait built in, and the bus is back at the gate at your pickup time.
Can you provide a certificate of insurance?
Yes, on request, naming your school or organization as additional insured where required.
Who operates the bus?
A licensed motor carrier from our network, under its own authority and $5M liability insurance. Glyde arranges and coordinates the trip, and the operating carrier is named on your contract. You deal with one contact and one number throughout, and the driver’s cell reaches you the night before.
