Who books a lights night

Private groups
01

Office teams

A team night out in December: the office to Midtown, a walk past the windows and the tree, and everyone home on the same bus instead of splitting rideshares at 10 PM.

02

Hotel guests

Group sales and concierge desks booking one evening for a wedding block, a tour group or a conference’s guests, picked up at the lobby and dropped back there.

03

Churches and senior groups

A parish, a seniors club or a community group that wants the lights without the parking, with a pickup at the church or the center and a pace set for everyone.

04

Families and reunions

Three generations in town for the holidays on one bus, from the house or the hotel, with no one stuck driving or circling for a spot.

05

Clubs, teams and scout troops

A season-end night for a team, a club or a troop, with the parents’ list on board and one return time.

Two routes groups ask for

The plan
01

Midtown: the windows and the tree

The Rockefeller Center tree is lit on December 2 this year and the Saks Fifth Avenue windows return November 23. Buses stop only at the curbs NYC DOT designates, so the group is dropped at one, walks the windows and the tree, and is picked up where the bus can stop. NYC DOT posts its holiday bus zones each season, and we plan to that year’s list.

02

Dyker Heights: the houses

The Brooklyn displays run from about Thanksgiving weekend to the New Year and are busiest on mid-December weekends, from about 5 to 9 PM. The 68th Precinct sets strict bus rules each season: in recent years buses dropped on 86th Street between 12th and 13th Avenues and waited on 7th Avenue, and the group walked the core streets. We confirm that season’s rules before your night.

03

Or build your own

The Bronx Zoo Holiday Lights run November 21 to January 3, with buses parking on the Southern Boulevard side, and the NYBG Holiday Train Show runs November 14 to January 10. A group can pair one of these with the Midtown windows, or Midtown with Dyker on a longer night.

04

One contact, one bus

One person sets the plan, the driver has the group lead’s cell the night before, and the bus stays with the group all night, waiting where each stop’s rules allow. Nobody drives, nobody parks, and everyone leaves together.

How booking works

Three steps
Step 01

Send the date, the headcount and the pickup

The night you want, how many are coming, where they leave from, and the route if you have one in mind.

Step 02

One all-in number the same day

Gratuity and fuel are in the number. Tolls, including the Manhattan congestion charge, are itemized at cost.

Step 03

Approve, and the night is set

A 25 percent deposit holds the date, the balance is due seven days out, and the driver info comes the day before.

Right-sized for your group

13 to 55-plus

A family of 12 rides a Sprinter. An office team of 24 rides a mini bus, a church group of 35 a mini coach, and a big group of up to 55 a full coach.

Sprinter Van
Up to 13 Passengers
Mini Bus
23–29 Passengers
Mini Coach
35–39 Passengers
Full Coach
55 Passengers

Bigger group? Several buses leave together and run the same route as one plan.

Questions, answered

Holiday Lights Charters FAQ
How long does a holiday lights bus tour take?
Plan about four hours from a Manhattan pickup, longer from North Jersey or with a second stop: the drive in, time on foot at the windows and the tree or on the Dyker Heights blocks, and the drive home. Billing runs garage to garage with a five-hour minimum.
When is the best night to go?
Mid-December weekends from 5 to 9 PM are the busiest at Dyker Heights, so a weeknight or an early-December night is calmer. The Rockefeller tree is lit from December 2.
Where does the bus drop off in Dyker Heights?
Where the 68th Precinct allows that season. In recent years buses dropped on 86th Street between 12th and 13th Avenues and waited on 7th Avenue, and groups walked the decorated streets. The precinct sets the rules each year, and we confirm them before your date.
Can the bus stop at Rockefeller Center?
Only at the curbs NYC DOT designates. Last season they included the north side of 51st Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues and the south side of 50th Street by Rockefeller Plaza, a block from the tree, and buses waited at West Side layovers until pickup. DOT posts the new list each season, and we plan to it.
Can you pick up in New Jersey?
Yes. Bergen, Hudson, Essex and Passaic County groups are a regular pickup, as are Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan. Tolls are itemized at cost on the quote.
Is this a ticketed tour?
No. The bus is private to your group: your pickup, your route, your timing, with no seats sold to anyone else.
Who operates the bus?
A licensed motor carrier from our network, under its own authority and $5M liability insurance. Glyde arranges and coordinates the trip, and the operating carrier is named on your contract. You deal with one contact and one number throughout, and the driver’s cell reaches you the night before.
